VIERA, FLA. – Over a period of nine days, Nov. 26 – Dec. 7 (excluding Nov. 28), all sixth grade students are taking part in a one-day study trip to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center (KSCVC) to participate in Brevard Space Week. Students participate in events such as completing an engineering design challenge, meeting an astronaut, riding the Shuttle Launch Experience, taking part in NASA demonstrations, and viewing many displays.

The study trip and curriculum are designed to inspire students to choose STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses that lead to a STEM career. The study trip is free to students and is funded by Brevard Schools Foundation and the National Space Club.

School Happenings

Freedom 7 Elementary School of International Studies

Freedom 7 Elementary recently concluded its annual Thanksgiving food drive.  The collection of food items began November 5th and ended on November 19th.  The school collected four thousand four hundred and seven pounds (4,407) of canned goods, frozen turkeys and fresh produce.  These items were distributed to the Central Brevard Sharing Center, Helping Hands (Rockledge) and the St. Vincent DePaul Society’s Food Bank at Our Savior’s in Cocoa Beach.


West Shore Jr./Sr. High

West Shore Jr./Sr. High will be hosting parent and student informational meetings about the school, curriculum, application and enrollment procedures on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, and Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at 6:00 PM in the gymnasium. Interested parents and students are welcome and encouraged to attend one of these meetings. West Shore is located at 250 Wildcat Alley in Melbourne near the Melbourne Courthouse.

Applications for the 2013-2014 school year and informational brochures will be available beginning January 8, 2013 in the front office at West Shore, all elementary schools from the feeder chains, the Customer Service Center in Viera, and the District Office of School Choice. Applications will be accepted until 4:00 PM on February 1, 2013. If applications exceed available space, there will be a lottery for acceptance on February 14, 2013.  Siblings of students currently enrolled at West Shore will receive enrollment preference based on certain provisions.  Sibling applications must be received by the official deadline of February 1, 2013.
